Perforated halftone screen
The dots are not drawn, they are PUNCHED. It is an opaque sheet with holes repeated every few pixels, and because the same element carries a backdrop-filter, whatever shows through each hole arrives already blurred. That pre blur is what turns a hard grid into a halftone rather than a pixel mosaic. The mask runs opposite to a vignette: transparent in the middle, so it removes the SHEET where the image should read clean.
