The turbulence is never animated: animating it makes the field pop rather than travel. It stays still and a feOffset does the moving, with TWO copies of the same seed scrolling in opposite directions, so as one leaves the frame the other is arriving and the seam never shows. The two axes are blended with color-dodge, which is what forks the edge instead of merely wobbling it.
