Extruded keycaps
The key's edge is a hard shadow with zero blur, not a border and not a pseudo-element, which is why it follows the corner radius for free. On press the face drops by exactly the edge height and the edge goes to nothing: the total height never changes, so the row does not twitch. Shrink only the edge and the key floats; move only the face and it sinks into a plinth still standing.
